Federal, State, and Local Goverment - New Mexico Department of Public Safety

The Motor Transportation Division (MTD) is a division of the Department of Public Safety. With complete statewide law enforcement jurisdiction, MTD enforces both federal safety regulations as well as state motor vehicle and criminal codes.

The MTD is the designated lead agency for motor carrier safety and size and weight enforcement in New Mexico. In addition to enforcing commercial motor vehicle laws and regulations, MTD is the first line of defense in New Mexico against threats to homeland security from individuals utilizing commercial motor vehicles as a means of terrorism.

Mission Statement - "To keep New Mexico's highways safe, to ensure the safe and legal operation of commercial motor vehicles and to prevent the introduction of illicit contraband into New Mexico while facilitating trade."
