Vice President - Automotive Research
National Transportation Research Center, Inc., Knoxville, TN

 

The National Transportation Research Center, Inc. (NTRCI) is seeking a qualified professional to serve as the fulltime Vice President for the NTRCI's Automotive Research Alliance (Alliance).  The Alliance recently began operations.  The Alliance was organized by the National Transportation Research Center Inc., along with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Tennessee Valley Authority, to be a resource for the automotive industry and for the region to compete for research jobs.  The Alliance includes seven universities - Tennessee, Auburn, Clemson, Mississippi State, Alabama, Alabama-Birmingham, and Kentucky - are all in states with automotive manufacturing plants and suppliers.

Desired qualifications: A proven record of leadership and management in the automotive industry and the demonstrated ability to build relationships with the Alliance members and the automotive industry.  The candidate should be able to demonstrate success in implementing new initiatives in academia and industry.  Executive experience and strong interpersonal skills, including collaboration with the automotive industry are essential to the success of the candidate

The Automotive Research Alliance goal is to advance the region's economic development emphasis on the automotive industry by creating collaboration between seven Southern universities, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and the automotive industry.  The goal is to address issues ranging from academic and training programs to technology and manufacturing solutions.

The NTRCI vision is to provide business and economic development leadership on behalf of its partners to attract and develop research and development opportunities with automotive and truck industries and select government clients.

Minimum requirements:  extensive working experience in the automotive industry with an established network.  The search committee may review the candidate's working knowledge of the automotive industry.  Further, the successful candidate's record must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of automotive research topics and potential sponsors.  The candidate's record must also demonstrate ability to lead, plan strategically, and develop/implement a vision for an automotive research organization.
